HIGHWOOD, MT – Youth members of Farmers Union from around the country participated in the 85th National Farmers Union (NFU) All-States Leadership Retreat. This year’s event was held at Montana Farmers Union’s Arrowpeak Lodge in Highwood, MT.

Participants in the retreat ranged from ages 18 to 22 and heard from speakers including Montana Farmers Union Membership Services and Government Affairs Director Rachel Prevost, Montana Farmers Union member Paul Neubauer, and Montana Farmers Union President Walter Schweitzer.

“I enjoyed getting to know young Farmers Union leaders from around the country,” said Montana Farmers Union President Walter Schweitzer. “It is reassuring to know that our future is in good hands with the next generation. These young leaders were smart, engaging, well-spoken, and fun to visit.”

Attendees also elected three members to serve on the NFU National Youth Advisory Council (NYAC) for the 2023-24 term: Jackie Zaviska and Mariah Peterson of Minnesota, and Tate Rafteseth of North Dakota. NYAC members will build on their leadership skills at NFU’s Fall Legislative Fly-In in Washington, D.C., presenting at the NFU National Convention in 2024, as well as helping plan the 2024 All-States Retreat.
